Jewish Learning Institute

JLIThe Rohr Jewish Learning Institute brings authentic, relevant Jewish learning to adults seeking intellectual and spiritual growth. Our students include both first-time learners and those with years of prior study. We follow a powerful path of discovery and depth, touching the soul and altering the life course of our learners.

The Rohr JLI is the largest institute of adult learning of its kind, operating in over 250 cities around the world. The essentials of Jewish literacy is in a series of  thoughtfully designed six- and eight-week courses. Every course is accompanied by a student textbook and enhanced by engaging audio-visual presentations. Our teaching is conveyed in a warm environment that embraces every student.

The JLI brings Jewish learning to life, leading students toward fresh thinking about the world, and creating an environment that inspires feelings of hope, purpose, meaning and value.

Six week course on: Land and Spirit: Why We All Care About Israel

Explore the spirit of a land that has pulsed with energy and mystery since the dawn of time, a land that has captured our imagination throughout history, a land that breathes with the glory of our past and the dreams of our future. Join us as we examine what Israel was meant to be, and what Israel means to us today.

Six week course on: Faith, Reason, and Conviction: The Thinking Person's Guide to Jewish Belief

Reflections on Jewish Faith, Reason, and Experience The pre-eminent Jewish philosopher, Maimonides, articulated thirteen principles that are at the core of Jewish faith and define our consciousness. These principles are a brilliant distillation of a belief system that is at once logically ordered and emotionally compelling. Taken together, they form the basis for a deeply satisfying relationship with G-d, with the world in which we live, and with our true selves.

Timeless Wisdom for Timely Dilemmas

When your heart is pulled in two directions, how do you know which tug to follow? The Talmud lays down principles that can help you disentangle warring intuitions so that you can clearly discern right from wrong. In this course, we invite you to experience the fascinating application of law and logic as the rabbis struggle to determine what is just.
